Elon student Pfleger remembered
By Laura Levitt
Michelle A. Pfleger, a first-year student at Elon, died on Friday
morning while walking to her class.
“She is beautiful inside and out,” Emily Bird said. “She cared so much
about people.”
Pfleger’s friends described her as confident and compassionate. Emily
Bird and Morgan D’Arcy met Pfleger at Adventures in Leadership, an
Elon-sponsored summer program for first-year students.
“Nobody knew each other on the trip, but I remember I just kept
staring at this one girl who literally acted like she knew every
single person in the room and everyone just connected with her,” Bird
recalled.
Pfleger was the recipient of the Mac Mahon Scholarship Award. It is a
need-based scholarship awarded to a first-year student with high
academic standing. She loved archaeology and history. She planned to
study both at Elon.
“She talked about being a museum curator and doing different events
for people and different stuff involved with history. She was really
passionate about that,” Bird said.
Even though she was only on campus for three weeks, Pfleger’s friends
will remember her smile and loving personality.
“She was the type of person that could conquer the world,” Bird said.
