Elon Police arrested senior Brandon Ward Thursday. He is charged with aggravated assault. The charges stem from an alleged assault that took place early Saturday morning.
Documents obtained from the Alamance County Magistrate’s Office show Ward was arrested on two counts of misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury.
According to a police report filed by the Town of Elon Police, Ward was in his car when he backed into someone standing in the parking lot at Oakhill Apartments. The report says Ward then got out of his car and punched another person in the face.
The police report says that both victims were not Elon students and were in town visiting friends who do attend Elon.
Although Ward is not identified in the police report, copies of arrest warrants filed with the Alamance County Magistrate’s office identify the same victims as the police report.
Ward is listed on the Elon Football team’s roster as a defensive linemen.
University spokesman Dan Anderson tells Phoenix14News that Elon “learned of pending legal charges against [Ward] and he is suspended from all athletic activity until his case is adjudicated.”
Anderson also says that Ward will go before Elon’s academic judicial system.
“We have to let the investigation continue before we take any other action,” Anderson said.
