The end of the NFL lockout brings new plans for two recent Elon graduates.
Two former Elon Phoenix football players signed undrafted free agent deals in the NFL. Former Elon quarterback, Scott Riddle has agreed to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars and former wide receiver, Sean Jeffcoat signed a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Due to the NFL Lockout, teams were not permitted to negotiate with undrafted free agents until last night. Teams were allowed to sign free agents as of 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Scott Riddle was a 4-year starter for the Phoenix and led the team to their first ever FCS Playoff appearance in 2009.
Last season, Riddle threw for 28 touchdowns and 3231 yards. In his career at Elon, he tossed a touchdown in 44 of his 45 career games.
Riddle also ranks as fourth all-time at the FCS level with 13,264 passing yards. He is also the all-time FCS leader in completions, completing 1,168 passes.
The Jacksonville Jaguars finished last season with an 8-8 reccord and narrowly missed the playoffs. Riddle will become the 6th QB on the Jaguars roster.
Last season, Jeffcoat caught 72 passes for 1,025 yards and 7 touchdowns. In his career with the Phoenix, Jeffcoat caught 139 passes for 1,826 yards and 11 touchdowns over 46 games.
Jeffcoat will join a wide receiver team that includes former Pro Bowler, Larry Fitzgerald and former SOCON standout from The Citadel, Andre Roberts.
Sean Jeffcoat will join the Cardinals for training camp Wednesday and Scott Riddle will report to training camp on Thursday.
